Dani

“Go,” Dani yelled, looking at Tris in the front seat.

“Okay, okay, I’m going,” he hissed as he jumped out the car and made for the booth.

Dani watched him go for a moment and then returned her gaze to the steadily approaching group of undead.

“They’re getting close,” Calvin stated.

“He’s not going to make it in time,” Dani replied, assessing the distance between the zombies and the car, and taking a guess at how long it would take for Tris to raise the shutters, versus the zombie’s reaching the vehicle.

“I’ll hold them off,” Dani said, jumping out of the car.

“I can ram them,” Calvin said, called out after her as Dani jumped out onto the tarmac.

Dani nodded. “Do what you can, but don’t fuck the car up, we’re going to need it.”

Calvin inclined his head as she shut the door and threw the vehicle into reverse. The engine whined as he accelerated back towards a group of shambling corpses and hit them with a series of dull thuds.

“Where’s he going?” Tris yelled from the booth.

Dani looked back at him. “He’ll be back, he’s buying you some time, now raise that shutter.”

“Alright, alright, I’m trying.”

Turning back to the garage, Dani watched Calvin race up between some parked cars, hitting more of the zombies, but there were loads of these things now. They were spread through the parking garage, staggering between the parked cars or climbing over them. Some were making for the rampaging sedan, the others advanced on Dani and Tris.

The car might be a deadly weapon, and useful against these things, but it couldn’t get all of them. It was too big to fit through all the gaps that zombies were in, and whatever happened, they needed a working vehicle once they left here.

Dani adjusted her grip of her blades and approached the zombies closest to her that Calvin had missed.

She hoped this Calvin wasn’t too reckless with his driving. Her biggest fear right now was that he’d slam into a support pillar and turn the car into a right-off, or run over a large group of zombie’s and get it caught on them in an effort to impress.

She shook her head in exasperation as she readied herself to attack the closest zombie.

Calvin seemed nice enough, but she already felt like he was trying to impress her. She didn’t have time for that crap right now, though. Their lives were on the line, so she hoped that Calvin would get his head in the game and not get distracted.

The closest zombie shambled into range. Dani swung her blade and severed the thing's neck. It dropped to the floor and stopped moving as two more approached.

Dani moved and as she met them, slashed and stabbed with her blades, cutting them both down.

“How’s that gate coming?” she called out over her shoulder as she strode towards the next closest zombies.

“Hold on, I think I’ve got it,” Tris replied. There was a sudden clang and then the sound of motors working. Metal screeched as it moved.
